Sleep


First Witch:
Sleep shall neither night nor day
Hang upon his pent-house lid;
He shall live a man forbid:

Summary: The witch is going to make the sailor suffer because his wife was rude to her by making him not sleep.

Lady Macbeth:


We fail!
But screw your courage to the sticking-place,
And we'll not fail. When Duncan is asleep--
Whereto the rather shall his day's hard journey
Soundly invite him--his two chamberlains
Will I with wine and wassail so convince
That memory, the warder of the brain,
Act I, Scene III
Summary: Lady Macbeth is saying that they have failed at killing the king but when they try again they will not fail. She plans on having him killed in his sleep.

Macbeth

Bring forth men-children only;
For thy undaunted mettle should compose
Nothing but males. Will it not be received,
When we have mark'd with blood those sleepy two
Of his own chamber and used their very daggers,
That they have done't?
Act II, Scene I
Summary: Macbeth is basically saying that there should only be boys being born and to kill any girls. Also when the two are sleeping that he should kill them?..
